The history department forms part of the Communication Faculty and is characterised by inspirational lessons, motivated learners and a real passion for the subject matter. Group work, self-evaluation processes and critical thinking skills are just some of the many learning skills which students develop to the maximum during their history courses at GPS. Ancient World History is often studied as an additional option to Modern History at KS4.The well-equipped history room, with its huge World War One mural, is a resource in itself and students have the opportunity to take part in trips such as the recent Paris/Battlefields cross-curricular trip and the Leeds Armouries trip in conjunction with the Art department.
At Key Stage 3, students will study History either as a discrete subject or as part of their combined humanities course for one lesson per week. At Key Stage 4, history has been a popular option with students for many years. We follow the OCR exam board syllabus for both Modern and Ancient World History GCSE courses.
