Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4

Year 10

Year 10 is the start of our GCSE courses; this is a very important year for our year 10 students. Expectations of achievement are increasing and many pieces of GCSE coursework and controlled assessment will be completed during this year. A mature and focussed approach will be required for full potential to be realised. Emphasis is placed on the importance of attendance, punctuality, homework and revision.

Students will be given the opportunity to undertake work experience for one week in the summer term and will be guided through this process by Mrs Bilton, our Careers Advisor. This is an invaluable addition to the year 10 curriculum and often leads to future employment opportunities for our students.

Our year 10 students will be expected to lead by example with opportunities to become Prefects as part of our Student Leadership Team.

Year 11

As our year 11 students approach their final examinations in the summer, it is vital that they are fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills. A large part of this success will be down to how effectively they manage their time, and implement an effective revision programme in the run up to the summer examinations. Learning how to revise effectively is a key part of this and to this end, we hold a study skills evening which both parents and students are invited to attend.

Extra revision sessions in some subjects will be available throughout the year. Your child should consult with their class teacher for more details and will be expected to attend when requested to do so.

We hold an exciting motivational conference in the spring term where the “Fix Up Team” work with our whole year 11 cohort to help focus minds and inspire our students to be the best they can be.

Pre Public exams take place in January and they inform staff and pupils of areas of strength and areas for development. The results are a time for celebration for many and an opportunity to focus on the exams ahead.

This is a much looked forward to event in the Year 11 calendar. Your child will have the opportunity to receive a reduced price Prom ticket should they achieve some of the motivational targets set throughout the year as well as the successful completion of the “Prom Passport”.
